Most Gen Xers work under the supervision of a Baby Boomer, and this alone has been the root of many performance management issues. Generation Y, sometimes called the “Baby Boomer Echo” because they are the children of the Baby Boomers, represent 25 percent of the workforce. They were born after 1980 and provide some support in numbers, but they are at the heart of the skills-deficiency crisis, especially in the maintenance industry where so much of the critical skill sets are locked in the heads of Baby Boomers.
